BRIAN SCHRYVER
Candidate for Councillor of Wasaga Beach
My Vision:
With the decline of tourism at Beach area 1, it made me question how businesses have survived over the years relying on the tourism for 3 to 4 months out of the year. This made me realize that the only way for businesses to thrive in our community is for the Town to focus their efforts on year round tourism. This includes indoor and outdoor activities throughout the year such as theatres, cinemas, and both indoor and outdoor activities for our youth and children.

Additionally, improvements need to be made to the town’s infrastructure to allow full time residents the ability to walk down sidewalks without having to worry about traffic. There are many areas on Mosley, Ramblewood Dr., River Road West/East and many other main roads where sidewalks should have been installed years ago. Many people talk about how they would like to see the schools of Wasaga Beach as "walkable" facilities, however with the current level of accessibility, this is an impossiblity for many families.
During the previous municipal elections in 2010, the discussion of having a high school and walk in clinics in Wasaga Beach were raised, though nothing seems to have been done. There is clearly a demand for a high school in Wasaga Beach with more and more full time residents and young families moving to the area. This should not be optional and the Town must work with the provincial government to obtain funding necessary to establish a high school here in our town. Further, as the closest hospitals to Wasaga Beach are either Collingwood or Barrie those that live in the east side of Wasaga Beach are very much at a disadvantage. At the very least walk in clinics should be established in the east side of Town to accommodate the restrictions of the residents in Wasaga Beach.
Furthermore, I feel that the communication between the town and the residents is lacking, and a communications committee should be established to ensure that all residents are fully aware of and are informed of progress made to changes, upgrades and improvements within the town.
I am confident that running for councillor of Wasaga Beach is a position that I can fufill and become a valued member of our community. My experience will become a great asset when developing our town to be the year round destination that it can be.
Thank you for your support and I look forward to serving you here in our great town of Wasaga Beach!
